• Iris Recognition

Although I am no longer a part of the Biometrics Works team at SMU, I spent over a year working on a research project that focused on iris recognition. Our team worked with professors at the United States Naval Academy on an algorithm that they have developed that is competitive to the Daugman algorithm (the one that is used in almost all commercial iris recognition systems). In addition to iris recognition, my time with the research group also gave me a well rounded background in the field of biometrics.

Our project was to essentially re-architect the framework of the algorithm from the ground up. The framework was implemented in C++, and significantly improved upon both the performance and accuracy of the original implementation. Some of the main aspects of the implementation include techniques in computer vision, pattern recognition, and image processing.

Unfortunately, the research group doesn’t have an official web site, but for more information on the program please visit here: http://www.smu.edu/Lyle/CaruthInstitute/BiometricsResearch.aspx.
